We're Recruiting Social Media Volunteers
Are you creative, passionate about storytelling and looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community?
The Indigenous Gathering Place Society (IGPS) is looking for one or two Social Media Volunteers to help us share our journey, celebrate milestones and build awareness of our vision for a permanent Indigenous Gathering Place in Moh’kinsstis (Calgary).
Whether you're a student, an emerging communications professional or someone who simply enjoys creating engaging social media content, we'd love to hear from you!
About the Indigenous Gathering Place
The Indigenous Gathering Place Society is an Indigenous-led, Elder-guided non-profit organization working to establish a permanent, purpose-built Indigenous Gathering Place in Moh’kinsstis.
Rooted in Blackfoot protocol and the perspectives of Treaty 7 Nations, the future Indigenous Gathering Place will be a space for ceremony, cultural practice, knowledge sharing, learning and community connection.
As we move forward with this important community initiative, we're looking for creative individuals who can help us share our progress, connect with community members and build excitement for what's ahead.
What You'll Be Doing
Working alongside the IGPS team, you'll help bring our story to life through engaging social media content and online community engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
Creating content: Develop 1–2 social media posts per week, including captions and simple graphics using Canva or similar tools.
Sharing our journey: Highlight project milestones, community events, organizational updates and opportunities for involvement.
Connecting with community: Help monitor comments and messages, engage with followers and identify opportunities to grow our online community.
Planning ahead: Support a simple monthly content calendar to keep our communications consistent and organized.
Sharing ideas: Bring your creativity and insights to help us strengthen our online presence and tell our story in meaningful ways.
Tracking progress: Help monitor basic social media engagement and identify opportunities to improve our content.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for individuals who are creative, dependable and excited about contributing to an Indigenous-led community initiative.
Ideally, you'll bring:
Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Basic graphic design skills, particularly using Canva.
Creativity and an interest in digital storytelling.
An understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, including cultural protocols and respectful representation.
Good organizational skills and an ability to work independently or collaboratively.
A willingness to learn and contribute ideas.
You don't need to be a social media expert! We welcome volunteers with different levels of experience who are enthusiastic, willing to learn and committed to supporting our vision.
Time Commitment & Flexibility
Approximately 2 hours per week per volunteer.
This is a flexible volunteer opportunity that can be completed primarily remotely.
We may recruit one volunteer or two volunteers who can work together, sharing responsibilities based on their skills, interests and availability.
We're hoping to find individuals who can make a consistent commitment over several months to help us build momentum and maintain a regular social media presence.
Our team will provide guidance, existing branding and content resources, and support to help you succeed.
